As temperatures continue to soar across various districts of Bengal, including the capital Kolkata, the Meteorological Department has issued warnings of an impending heat wave. On Thursday, Kolkata braces for scorching temperatures, with the possibility of heat wave conditions. However, relief may be in sight as the forecast predicts rain accompanied by thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday.

According to the regional headquarters of the MeT Department in Alipore, severe heat is anticipated in several parts of the state, including metropolitan Kolkata, throughout April. Currently, temperatures in Kolkata and surrounding areas hover around 37 degrees Celsius, subjecting residents to sweltering heat throughout the day. The minimum temperature recorded on Wednesday stood at 28.5 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal, while the maximum temperature peaked at 36.7 degrees Celsius, two degrees higher than normal.

Aside from Kolkata, districts such as Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, and Bankura have experienced temperatures ranging from 28 to 37 degrees Celsius. Cloudy skies have prevented the dissipation of hot winds, exacerbating the humid conditions.
